In 1040, Bishop Bruno began planning and building the new Kilians Cathedral, as it still exists today in its basic form. But the 19th bishop of the Würzburg diocese was much more than just a master builder. Bruno represented the Ottonian-Salic imperial church in perfect form and felt equally obliged to God and to people.
