Heinrich came to the monastery school in Hildesheim and was supposed to be prepared for the clerical status, probably on the instructions of King Otto II. Further studies followed in the monastery of St. Emmeram in Regensburg under the direction of Abbot Ramwold. He was committed to the renewal of the church and the monasteries.
