The Scot was prior in the Schotten monastery of St. Jakob in Regensburg. When Bishop Embricho founded a Schotten monastery in Würzburg, Makarius became the first abbot in 1139. He died in 1153. Since 1818 his relics have been in the Marienkapelle in Würzburg.
