Antonius was born in Lisbon in 1195 as the son of wealthy noblemen. At the age of 15, he decided to answer God's call. He gets on a ship to preach in Morocco. Once there, he gets sick and has to sail back. He gets caught in a storm and his ship is stranded in Sicily. From there he wandered to Assisi, met with St. Francis and settled as a hermit in Montepaolo near Forlì. After the death of St. Francis he comes to Padua.
